POSITION: Research Assistant, Bioinformatics

The global Research & Development activities are coordinated and steered
from Nunhems head office in Haelen, The Netherlands. For our Molecular
biology lab in The Netherlands we are looking for a full time Research
Assistant, Bioinformatics
Job purpose
The Research Assistant Bioinformatics works on the development and
maintenance of innovative tools, applications, and platforms for data
management and analysis in the genomics and bioinformatics fields, and
provides support for these to our team of scientists and research
assistants in the Molecular Breeding department. The Research Assistant
Bioinformatics will also perform large scale and customized bioinformatics
and genomics analysis in collaborative projects with Molecular Breeding
research teams, the Bayer BioScience Bioinformatics group in Gent, and
external partners.
Profile
* M.Sc. degree, or equivalent, in Bioinformatics, or in the field of
Molecular Genetics with a strong affinity for Bioinformatics.
* Experience in bioinformatics, genomics and sequence analysis.
* Experience in at least one scripting language of Perl, PHP or
Python.
* Ability to work independently, and collaborate across a
multi-disciplinary team.
* Excellent analytical skills.
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* An innovative and creative personality.
Desirables
* Experience in relational databases like MySQL, Oracle, Access.
* Experience in the Unix and Linux operating systems.
* Knowledge of statistics and algorithm development.
* Background in plant genetics, plant breeding, comparative genomics,
large-scale sequence analysis and data mining.
