[Employment] Postdoctoral Position in Molecular Neurobiology of Learning and Memory at the University of Puerto Rico

We are announcing a postdoctoral position in the field of Molecular
Neurobiology of Learning and Memory.  The successful applicant will work
under the supervision of Dr. Sandra Peña de Ortiz, Full Professor at the
Department of Biology, University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras Campus.  The
position is funded by a grant from NIMH.  Dr. Peña de Ortiz's lab focuses on
the potential involvement of DNA recombination mechanisms on long-term
memory formation.  The selected postdoctoral candidate will work on studies
aimed at identifying and characterizing target genes of DNA recombination in
the brain related to memory.  In addition, he or she will work on studies
aimed at elucidating the specific mechanisms surrounding DNA recombination
in the brain.  We are looking for candidates with expertise in the following
approaches:  biochemical enzymatic assays of DNA recombination, Real-Time
PCR, gene microarray studies and analysis (dual fluorescence methodology),
chromatin immunoprecipitation, cannulation surgeries in rodents and
antisense technology, confocal microscopy, immunohistochemistry and
immunfluorescence, and general molecular biological and biochemical
techniques, such as Western blotting and DNA analyses with polycrylamide
gels.

The chosen applicant will have the opportunity to join a productive and
exciting laboratory environment that includes other postdoctoral and
visiting scientists, graduate students, and undergraduates.  In addition,
the position will allow for the postdoc to travel to important professional
meetings in order to present their work and network with other scientists in
the field.
