soft for data management

Hi Everybody

Does anybody know about a sofware to manage databases?
I want to manage a matrix (350x1000) of scoring data but either excel and access can't support more than 256 columns. I can split the data but for analysis reasons I need to join them.
Does anyone could give me a name of an adequated sofware?
