ECML PKDD 2008
The European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of
Knowledge Discovery in Databases
***********************************************************

September 15-19, 2008
Antwerp, Belgium
http://www.ecmlpkdd2008.org/

The ECML PKDD 2008 Organizing Committee invites proposals for full-day or
half-day tutorials and workshops or a combination of these. Workshops and
tutorials will be part of the main conference, and are free of charge to the
attendees of the conference. Every workshop and tutorial will receive one
free conference registration to be used by one of the organisers or an
invited speaker of a workshop. Informal printed workshop proceedings and
tutorial notes will be made available by ECML PKDD organizers.

Key Dates

    * Workshop/tutorial proposal deadline: March 31, 2008
    * Workshop/tutorial acceptance notification: April 11, 2008
    * Workshop websites and call for papers online: April 18, 2008
    * Workshop/tutorial proceedings/notes camera-ready: August 21, 2008

Workshops

Workshops provide an opportunity to discuss current and emerging topics in
machine learning and/or data mining in an interactive atmosphere. Thus, any
topic that is of current interest to a sufficient number of participants from
the two communities could be the focus of a workshop. Workshops that bring
together researchers and practitioners from different communities are
especially encouraged. Each workshop should be well-focused, aim not to be a
mini-conference, but attract a sufficiently large audience. At least one of
the Workshop Chairs should be a knowledgeable person in the area of machine
learning or data mining.

Tutorials

Tutorials provide independent instruction on topics from the field of machine
learning or data mining. Introductions to other research domains that could
fertilize the machine learning/data mining field with new challenges or
solutions are also welcome provided that there is a clear relation to machine
learning/data mining. Each tutorial should be well-focused, attract a
sufficiently large audience, cover the overall picture at an introductory
level without a bias towards the work of one author, and be free of
commercial or sales-oriented material. A tutorial should be presented by
highly qualified persons with a demonstrable background and teaching
experience in the tutorial area.

Submissions

Proposals should contain the necessary information for the workshop chairs and
reviewers to judge the importance, relevance, quality and community interest
in the proposed tutorial/workshop. More detailed instructions are available
here:

http://www.ecmlpkdd2008.org/workshop-tutorial-instructions

Each proposal should be submitted by email to the ECML PKDD 2008 workshop and
tutorial chairs, who will review the proposals in close collaboration with
the conference chairs and members of the program committee.
