Discussion is now closed. I don't believe that one side or another
was sufficiently convincing to warrant modification of the proposed
newsgroup charter (below), so we will simply put it out unaltered to a
vote of the readership.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
bionet.biology.used-equipment would be devoted to posting notices of
used laboratory equipment or other lab items that are for resale by
the owner. The newsgroup may not be used by commercial concerns
seeking to promote products, nor may it be used by individuals as
advertising for "pawn shop" purposes, i.e., network regulations would
not permit an "entrepreneur" from buying and reselling used equipment
through the use of this medium. Questions about the use of equipment
or equipment preferences would *not* be within the charter of this
newsgroup, but should be submitted to the
METHODS/bionet.molbio.methds-reagnts newsgroup. The newsgroup is open
(not moderated).
----------------------------------------------------------------------

As this is a service newsgroup, a discussion leader is not needed.

Voting is now open on bionet.biology.used-equipment and will run
through May 20th. Please send your vote to any of the following
addresses:

Address Location Network
------- -------- -------
biovote at daresbury.ac.uk U.K. JANET
biovote at genbank.bio.net U.S.A. Internet/BITNET
biovote at irlearn.ucd.ie Ireland EARN/BITNET

The IRLEARN biovote address will remain in use despite the pending
transfer of the newsgroup mailing lists to Daresbury.

Your vote should contain a single line:

YES on used-equipment

if you favor creation of the newsgroup or

NO on used-equipment

if you think that the creation of this newsgroup will adversely affect
the BIOSCI system. ***NOTE***: I specifically request that you vote
NO if you believe that existing newsgroups are adequate for handling
the subject matter proposed for this newsgroup. If you are simply not
interested in participating in this newsgroup, please don't cast a NO
vote, but instead just don't vote at all.

The newsgroup proposal must receive at least 80 YES votes to pass and
the number of YES votes must be greater than the number of NO votes by
at least 40. Discussion of the newsgroup proposal is now closed and
we strongly discourage posting any messages in other forums about the
fact that a CALL FOR VOTES has been issued.

				Sincerely,
