              SECOND INTERNATIONAL ANCIENT DNA CONFERENCE

                      October 7, 8, and 9,  1993

                        Smithsonian Institution
                           Washington, D.C.

THE CONFERENCE THEME:

The 2nd International Ancient DNA Conference will be a gathering of
scientists working on ancient DNAs.  Following the 1st International
Conference held in Nottingham, England in 1990, many participants supported
the concept of holding a subsequent conference in a museum setting where the
importance of natural history collections as the source of ancient DNA might
be explored and debated. Researchers at the Smithsonian who are actively
engaged in ancient DNA inverstigations agreed to host this conference.


VENUE:

The Conference will be held in the Ripley Internation Center of the
Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.


PROGRAM:

The three day conference will consist of morning symposia with featured
speakers and afternoons dedicated to contributed papers and sicussion and
poster sessions.  The morning symposia topics are listed below.  Evening
receptions at the National Museum of Natural History and at the National
Zoological Park are planned.

                Thursday October 7:    Systematics

                Friday October 8:      Humans and Domestication

                Saturday October 9:     Populations


REGISTRATION AND FURTHER INFORMATION

Due to space limitations, registration will be limited to 150 participants.
The $100.00 registration fee must be submitted with the registration
application.  Registration materials must be received by May 1, 1993.
registration checks will not be cashed until a space is reserved for you.

Accomodations are the responsibility of the participants; a block of rooms
has been reserved at the Holiday Inn, Washington, D.C. which is located 2
blocks from the Mall and 6 blocks from the Ripley Center.  Further
information about accommodations and the Washington, D.C. area will be sent
to accepted participants.
