                            A Practical Course
                                  on the
Restriction Landmark Genomic Scanning (RLGS) Method

                      The 15th RIKEN Training Course
                            Nov 11 to 14, 1993

This course is designed to train scientists with a background in molecular
biology on the techniques and equipment of RLGS, two dimensional
electrophoresis of DNA using restriction enzyme sites as landmarks (Hatada
et al (1991) Proc Nat Acad Sci, USA 88: 9523-9527). This technique can be
used for genetic analysis of any kind of animal or plant. In response to
requests of scientists working in the fields of human and mouse genome
mapping, this course by The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research
(RIKEN) is conveniently scheduled in connection with the 7th International
Mouse Genome Conference at Hamanako and The Human Genome Mapping Workshop
'93 in Kobe.

                           Yoshide Hayashizaki, M.D., Ph.D.
Gene Bank, RIKEN Tsukuba Life Science Center

Outline: 1. Practice in the RLGS method
             2. Reading of the RLGS pattern

Staff Members:
Dr. Yoshihide Hayashizaki (Gene Bank, RIKEN Tsukuba Life Science Center)
Dr. Shinji Hirotsune (Gene Bank, RIKEN Tsukuba Life Science Center)
Dr. Yasushi Okazaki (Gene Bank, RIKEN Tsukuba Life Science Center)
Dr. Hideo Shibata (Gene Bank, RIKEN Tsukuba Life Science Center)
Dr. Jun Kawai (Shionogi & Co., Ltd.)
Dr. Kenji Hirose (Shionogi & Co., Ltd.)
Dr. Hidehiko Sugino (Gene Bank, RIKEN Tsukuba Life Science Center)
Dr. Masami Muramatsu (Dept of Biochemistry, Satrama Medical School)

Assistants: Members of Gene Bank, RIKEN Tsukuba Life Science Center

Participants:
Participants should be research scientists who have experience with
laboratory research on genome analysis or molecular biology. They
should also have been trained in radioisotope use. Certification of
attendance of radioisotope training or official approval for use of
radioisotopes in your institute is required to enter the RIKEN
facility for radioisotopes. In considering applicants, the
possibility of their using the RLGS technique in their research will
     be given priority.

Number of Participants: 12 - 15
(Applicants will be selected if the number exceeds the limit)

Official language: English

Registration fee: 50,000 yen, to be paid in yen upon registration.
Airfare and ground transportation are the responsibility of the
participants. Accommodations for the participants for Nov 11 - 13
     will be arranged by RIKEN.

Application: Application deadline: July 31, 1993.
Application form and certification of attendance of
radioisotope training or official approval for radioisotope
use at your institute should be addressed to:
