Scientific Program

Rapid developments in the design and engineering of proteins
have generated a need, as never before, to understand the
factors which determine the interactions of proteins with
other macromolecules. It has become important to ask not
just whether an interaction occurs, but how strong and
extensive it is. This conference will focus on reversible
associations of macromolecules and feature emerging
techniques which allow such interactions to be studied
quickly, accurately and with high sensitivity. While the
oral and poster presentations will emphasise the systems
being studied, an underlying objective will be to
demonstrate the applications of techniques such as
analytical ultracentrifugation, plasmon resonance
spectroscopy and microcalorimetry.

Workshops/ Working Demonstrations

Small group workshop sessions will demonstrate the
techniques listed above. These sessions will be designed
for those with no previous experience with the techniques.
Selected samples, provided by participants, will be analysed
during the conference. If you are interested please
indicate on the registration form.

Venue

The conference will be held at the University of Melbourne.
Oral presentations will be in the Large Lecture theatre of
the Botany Department and the poster sessions, dinner and
light refreshments at University House. The
workshops/demonstrations will be in the Biochemistry
Department and in the Ludwig Institute of Cancer Research

Conference Dinner

A conference dinner at University House is being arranged
for Thursday, 3 February. Professor Howard Schachman has
kindly agreed to be our after dinner speaker. The cost of
the dinner will be $30 per person.

Accommodation

Block bookings have been made the Elizabeth Tower Motel ($80
per night) and at the Old Melbourne Hotel ($95 per night).
Both locations are within walking distance of the
University.

Abstracts/Posters:

Abstracts for both poster and oral presentations should be
submitted on A4 sized paper typed within a border
approximately 135 mm wide and 185 mm long. Poster size must
be no greater than 90 cm wide and 120 cm deep. Abstracts,
registration forms and fees should be forwarded (by 15
November, 1993) to:

        Dr G.J. Howlett
Russell Grimwade School of Biochemistry University
of Melbourne
        Parkville, Vic. 3052
Cheques should be made payable to Reversible Associations
Conference, 1994
