"CONFERENCE"
PRESENTATION
The Conference on "Neogene and Quaternary Mammals of the
Palaearctic" is a scientific meeting which is intended to deal
with systematics, evolution, biogeography, palaeoecology,
taphonomy and biostratigraphy of the European and Asiatic
Neogene and Quaternary mammals.
The aim of the meeting is also to bring together all those
who have developed scientific contacts with Professor Kazimierz
Kowalski.
More than 130 participants from 25 countries have
expressed interest in attending the Conference.
The Conference comprises thematic sessions. The main
lectures will be given by invited researchers. The thematic
sessions will include oral and poster presentations, selected
by the Scientific Committee. Round table discussions on a
number topics will also be arranged.
DATE & LOCATION
The Conference begins in the afternoon of May 17, 1994 at the
Polonia Institute of the Jagiellonian University, 7 kilometers
from the center of Krak"w.
OUTLINE OF SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM
In view of the unexpectedly large number of the applications,
it is anticipated that the Scientific Committee will have to
reduce the number of oral presentations proposed by the
participants. This is because any possible overlapping of the
sessions must be avoided. Accordingly, please consider the
possibility of presenting your communication in form of a
poster. The Poster Sessions will be arranged so that the author
will be able to present his work in front of the poster during
5 minutes; another 5 minutes will be provided for discussion.
The details of the program are still under consideration.
However, following thematic sessions can be indicated:
Systematics & Evolution, Biostratigraphy & Biodiversity,
Taphonomy & Palaeoecology, Fossil Mammals: Methodological
Approach. The Local Organizing Committee urgently needs your
suggestions concerning Round Table Discussions. Up to now we
received following proposals: "Allophaiomys problem and early
stages of Microtus evolution" and "Evolutionary dynamics and
classification of phyletic series".
