This is the second and final call for votes on the proposed
MOLECULAR-REPERTOIRES/bionet.molbio.methds-reagnts.molrepertoires
newsgroup. There were no changes made to the proposal as a result of
the discussion period. This message is also being posted to the
PEP-LIBS prototype newsgroup because the result of this vote will
determine whether PEP-LIBS continues in this new form or is shut down.

Newsgroup charter:
Molecular-Repertoires is a forum for all those who are interested in
the generation and use of large collections of molecules for basic
research and drug discovery. The interdisciplinary nature of this
rapidly-growing new research frontier raises the need for a means by
which investigators can communicate rapidly and easily across the
boundaries which normally define more discipline-specific areas of
research.
I propose the formation of a newsgroup called "Molecular-Repertoires"
to foster dialogue among all scientists whose investigative efforts
involve:
--generation of, and selection from, libraries of peptides and proteins
displayed on bacteriophage.
--generation and selection of synthetic peptide libraries in solution or
"on beads" by combinatorial or other means.
--small molecule organic chemical libraries.
--encoded combinatorial chemical, oligonucleotide or peptide libraries.
--nucleotide or deoxynucleotide libraries.
Formation of a newsgroup will provide:
--a forum for discussion of new ideas and recent developments in the various
disciplines impinging on the field.
--a source of information for new participants.
--a bulletin board for announcements of meetings, funding sources and job
opportunities.
--a means of initiating collaboration among participants.
--announcement of availability of novel reagents and other materials.
--a repository of practical advice and other information, including advances in
relevant methodology.
The newsgroup is expected to run unmoderated and I am willing to act us
the current coordinator.

Voting on the
MOLECULAR-REPERTOIRES/bionet.molbio.methds-reagnts.molrepertoires
newsgroup will run through 24:00 hrs Pacific Time on 22 February 1994.
Please send your vote to either of the following addresses:
Address Location Network
------- -------- -------
biovote at daresbury.ac.uk U.K. JANET
biovote at net.bio.net U.S.A. Internet/BITNET
PLEASE BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE FORMAT BELOW - WE OFTEN RUN MORE THAN ONE
VOTE AT A TIME SO A SIMPLE "YES" OR "NO" MESSAGE WITHOUT THE NEWSGROUP
NAME MAY BE AMBIGUOUS. Your vote should contain a single line:
YES on MOL-REPS
if you favor creation of the two newsgroups above or
NO on MOL-REPS
if you think that the creation of these newsgroups will adversely
affect the BIOSCI system. If you are simply not interested in
participating in these newsgroups, please don't cast a NO vote, but
instead just don't vote at all.
The newsgroup proposal must receive at least 80 YES votes to pass and
the number of YES votes must be greater than the number of NO votes by
at least 40. Discussion of the newsgroup proposal is now closed and
we strongly discourage posting any messages in other forums about the
fact that a CALL FOR VOTES has been issued.
Sincerely,
Dave Kristofferson
