I am pleased to announce that EMPLOYMENT-WANTED/bionet.jobs.wanted
passed by 107 YES votes to 8 NO votes. This means that the current
EMPLOYMENT/bionet.jobs newsgroup will soon be modified as described in
the proposal below. This should go into effect in a few days, but
please watch BIONEWS/bionet.announce for confirmation.

E-MAIL USERS, PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST SUBSCRIPTIONS NOW!!

An announcement will be made in this forum when the group is ready for
operation. I expect that it should be operational by early next week
at the latest.

			       Proposal
                               --------

I have been contacted by a reader recently about the possibility of
splitting the BIOSCI EMPLOYMENT/bionet.jobs newsgroup up into two
separate groups. The first group would be to post job openings and
the second group would be to post position wanted ads. Both groups
would be unmoderated, and no discussion leader is needed for this kind
of general usage newsgroup.

The easiest way to do this would be to retain the current
EMPLOYMENT/bionet.jobs newsgroup but change its charter to be for
posting only positions available. A second group
EMPLOYMENT-WANTED/bionet.jobs.wanted would be created as a forum for
posting only position wanted notices. The e-mail addresses for this
latter group are proposed to be

wantjob at net.bio.net
wantjob at daresbury.ac.uk

in conformance with our 8 char address length policy. Adding only one
new newsgroup (instead of canceling bionet.jobs and creating two new
groups for jobs.offerred and jobs.wanted) also simplifies the
BIOSCI archiving system.
