UPCOMING MEETING
On June 9 and 10, 1994, the Department of Energy, in collaboration with
the Institute of Medicine will sponsor a two day workshop on medical
information and the right to privacy. The meeting will serve as a forum
to discuss some of the most pressing legal, ethical and practical issues
related to the computerization and use of medical data, as well as the
potential impact the uses of these data have on an individual's privacy.
Specific topics that will be discussed include the legal issues relating
to the storage and transmission of computerized medical information and
privacy issues brought about by the use of biomarkers, blood donor banks
and the collection of DNA samples. All topics will be presented by leading
national experts, including representatives from Congress.
The meeting will be held in the large auditorium of the National Academy
of Sciences on 2101 Constitution Avenue in Washington, D.C., and is open
to the public. There is no charge to attend the meeting and no registration
