As part of the 1994-95 DIMACS special year on Mathematical
Support for Molecular Biology, a two and one half day workshop on
Phylogeny Reconstruction will be held February 6 -- February 8, 1995.

The focus of the workshop will be on computational and statistical
problems arising in the reconstruction of phylogenetic trees and
graphs from molecular data. The goal is to create a dialogue between
biologists, statisticians and computer scientists that will expand the
participants' research interests and promote collaborations between
the fields.

\no{\bf LOCATION:}
DIMACS is the NSF science and technology center for discrete
mathematics and computer science. It is a consortium of Rutgers and
Princeton Universities, AT\&T Bell Laboratories, and Bellcore. The
workshop will be held at Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey.

\no{\bf ORGANIZERS} of this workshop are:

\begin{tabular}{l}
Michael Bulmer (co-chair. Biological Sciences, Rutgers) \\
Martin Farach (Computer Science, Rutgers)\\
Peter Smouse (Theoretical and Applied Genetics, Rutgers)\\
Simon Tavar\'e (co-chair. Mathematics and Biological Sciences, USC)\\
Robert Vrijenhoek (Theoretical and Applied Genetics, Rutgers)\\
Tandy Warnow (Computer Science, University of Pennsylvania)
\end{tabular}

\medskip

\no{\bf CALL FOR CONTRIBUTED PRESENTATIONS:}
The workshop will include invited and contributed presentations.
Contributed papers are solicited in all aspects of phylogeny
reconstruction. Approximately ten 15-minute contributed talks will be
selected by the Workshop Committee for inclusion in the program.
Applications should be received by December 9, 1994 at:

\begin{tabular}{l}
Dr. Simon Tavar\'e (stavare at gnome.usc.edu)\\
Department  of Mathematics\\
University of Southern California\\
Los Angeles, CA 90089-1113.
\end{tabular}

\no Applications should include an e-mail address and a one-page
summary, together with up to 10 pages of supporting information.
Authors will be notified of acceptance by January 6, 1995.

\no{\bf INVITED SPEAKERS INCLUDE:}
G. Churchill,
W. Fitch,
N. Goldman,
A. von Haeseler,
S. Kannan,
G. Olsen,
P. Pevzner,
D. Roos,
A. Rzhetsky,

\no{\bf PARTICIPATION AND SUPPORT:}
 Subject to space constraints, the workshop is open to all
researchers. For questions regarding registration, local
transportation, accommodation, and driving directions contact the
workshop coordinator Sandy Barbu [barbu at cs.princeton.edu~~(609)
