ANNOUNCEMENT OF PUBLIC MEETING
The President's Council on Sustainable Development (PCSD) and the Walter
Orr Roberts Institute of the University Corporation for Atmospheric
Research (UCAR), with support from the Center for International Science
and Technology Policy at George Washington University, are sponsoring a
public roundtable discussion to address population growth in the United
States. The media and the public are invited to attend.
The Roundtable will take place in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, October
27, 1994 from 8:30 am - 11:30 am at:
George Washington University
The Continental Ballroom, The Marvin Center
800 21st Street NW (between H and I)
- Foggy Bottom Metro Stop
- Parking under the building off H between 21st & 22nd
This event will be held in conjunction with a meeting of the PCSD and will
include members of the PCSD's Population and Consumption Task Force. This
is one of three roundtables that will provide the PCSD with information
about the latest theories and date associated with population growth,
levels and types of consumption in the United States, and how these relate
to U.S. sustainability. Information gathered at the three events will be
given to the PCSD for formulation of policy recommendations on national
sustainability issues. The Roundtables are funded through a grant from
the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
The October 27 Roundtable is open to the public. Four experts on
fertility and migration issues will make presentations to the Task Force.
This will be followed by a discussion between the Task Force and the panel
of experts, and will conclude with questions and comments from the
audience. The panel discussion will be moderated by Judith Jacobsen,
Associate Director, Natural Resources Law Center at the University of
Colorado.
