	dbEST Announcement and Summary
	   January 12, 1995

====================================================================

dbEST passes the 80,000 mark!

With the recent addition of 8,748 human and 2,799 yeast ESTs from
The Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR), dbEST has passed the
80,000 sequence mark.
The human TIGR ESTs are isolated from 35 libraries of various human
organs and tissues. TIGR ESTs may be accessed from dbEST as described below.
For additional information on the TIGR ESTs, you may contact the TIGR
database (tdbinfo at tdb.tigr.org).

dbEST may be accessed in a variety of ways:

ACCESS TO EST DATA

The nucleotide sequences may be searched using the BLAST electronic mail
server. For more information send an e-mail message with the word "help"
in the body of the message to blast at ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. The TBLASTN program
which takes an amino acid query sequence and compares it with six-frame
translations of dbEST DNA sequences is particularly useful.

Full reports on ESTs, including homology data, can be retrieved from the
dbEST electronic mail server. For more information send an e-mail message
to retrieve at ncbi.nlm.nih.gov -- include "datalib dbest" followed by "help"
on the next line in the body of the message.

dbEST may also be accessed via the World Wide Web Mosaic server. There is
a text querying facility included as part of the Web dbEST service.
URL for dbEST is http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/dbEST/index.html
or via the NCBI page at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

EST sequences are also available as a flat file in the FASTA format by
anonymous FTP in the /repository/dbEST directory at ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
