Course on Molecular Embryology and Transgenic Technology
November 24 to December 15, 1996
Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong
This is a 3-week intensive lecture and practical course co-sponsored
by the Industry Department and Dr. & Mrs. Clyde Wu Fund. It is
designed for researchers to acquire information and technical skills
for producing transgenic animals for basic, medical and
biotechnology research.
Topics: The course will cover molecular aspects of development,
manipulating the mammalian genome and applications of transgenic
technology and include pre- and postimplantation mouse
development; embryonic stem cells, chimeras, gene transfer
techniques, genetics, phenotype analysis, transgenic models of
human diseases, transgenic farm animals, and xenotransplantation

Badge (London), Mai Har Sham (Hong Kong) and Patrick Tam
(Sydney).
Guest lecturers include: Richard Behringer, Keith Campbell, Frank
Grosveld, Nancy Jenkins, Anne McLaren, Ginny Papaioannou, Janet
Rossant, Claudio Stern, David Wilkinson.
Application: The course is limited to 20 participants. Investigators
from academic, medical and industrial sectors, especially from the
Asia Pacific region, are encouraged to apply. The course fee is HK$16,000
(US$2050) including board and lodging. Applications should include a full
CV, two letters of recommendation, a summary of current research and a
statement explaining reasons for attending the course. Applicants should be
fluent in English, have a MD/MBBS or PhD degree or be in the final
stages of their postgraduate research. A limited number of
scholarships are available, please indicate if you wish to apply for
