==========

Heinz Family Foundation Conference on
Women, Health & the Environment

A national conference sponsored by the Heinz Family Foundation
entitled "Women, Health & the Environment", will be held at the
Sheraton Boston Hotel on Friday, September 20, 1996.

The conference will present perspectives on environmental health
with an emphasis on risks of special concern to women. The goals
of the conference are education and empowerment for a new joint
effort to ensure that environmental policies adequately protect
women's health and to prevent illness by limiting exposure to
chemicals and other agents uniquely or especially dangerous to
women.

Illnesses of major concern to women related to preventable
environmental factors, including breast and ovarian cancer,
premature menopause and dementia, will be discussed in a panel
discussion on "Women's Health and the Environment," moderated by
Dr. Ellen Silbergeld. A second panel discussion on the topic of
"Women and the Environment," moderated by Dr. Anthony Cortese,
will focus on the interaction between population, development,
the workplace, and the environment and how those interactions
affect women's health and well-being. The keynote speakers are:
Dr. Bernadine Healy, former Director, National Institutes of
Health; Andrea Mitchell, NBC news correspondent; and
Rep. Patricia Schroeder (D-Colorado).

There is no charge for the conference and a box lunch will be
provided for all registered conference participants.
Registration will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
