Some additional information about the course:

The main purpose is to provide information on the use of
bioinformatics tools both locally and throughout Europe and the
Pacific Rim. The main focus will be in the protein area although
nucleic acid expertise will be provided. The course will contain a
mixture of short lectures followed by long practical sessions where
the students can use the programs and staff will help to solve
problems.

Although talks on each subject will undoubtedly be shared, a provisional
timetable showing areas of expertise amongst the lecturers is:

    Databases (Martin Hilbers, SEQNET)
    Common packages (Rodrigo Lopez, EBI)
Nucleic acid analysis (Peter Rice, Sanger)
Sequence homology searches (Jack Leunissen, CAOS/CAMM)
    Sequence patterns (Alan Bleasby, SEQNET)
Distant protein homologies (Rodrigo Lopez, EBI)
    Phylogeny (Jack Leunissen, CAOS/CAMM)
