THE DRUG DEVELOPMENT PROCESS: AN INTENSIVE SHORT COURSE
UC Berkeley Extension will offer a three-day course, "The Drug
Development Process" on Mon., Oct. 20 through Wed., Oct.22 at UC
Berkeley Extension Downtown, 150 Fourth St., San Francisco. The fee is
$1,245, and includes an extensive course materials, lunches, and a
social hour. There is a team fee of $1,145 per person for groups of

Irwin A. Heyman, the course director, has more than 20 years of
pharmaceutical industry experience and is also president and CEO of
Heyman Healthcare Consultants, a firm specializing in providing product
development and safety expertise to biotechnology and pharmaceutical
companies. Heyman will be joined by guest lecturers who are known as
leaders in the field.
The course is designed for new and experienced professionals from the
pharmaceutical, biotechnology and health-related industries, the course
is also useful to venture capitalists, patent attorneys and other
service providers who wish to improve their understanding of the
industry.
Topics include the functions and role of pharmacology, drug metabolism,
pharmacokinetics, toxicology, CMC/pharmaceutical development and
pharmacoeconomics; the
IND package; the four phases of clinical trials and clinical data
management; and the regulatory
review and approval process, including regulatory compliance, the NDA
filing and global registration and approval process.
