WORKSHOP ANNOUNCEMENT

Plant Proteins and the Mechanical Properties of Cell Walls
10 - 12 April 1999
Alicante, Spain

The focus of this workshop is the proteins which play an essential role
in the synthesis and modification of cell walls. Details of specific
classes of wall enzymes are beginning to emerge, making it timely to
address bottlenecks in current technological approaches to the subject,
and in how best to transfer our fundamental understanding of these
processes to end-user applications.

The workshop will encompass three days of activities, addressing:

* Cell walls and plant growth
* Measurement of mechanical properties
* Wall loosening and rigidifying enzymes
* Fruit softening
* Food processing
* Plant fibres

Invited speakers:
Riccardo Angelini, Alain Boudet, David Bruce, Hans Edelmann, Stephen
Fry, Renee Goldberg, Don Grierson, Herman Hofte, George Jeronimidis,
Emilia Labrador, Ester Lorences, Simon McQueen-Mason, Pere Puigdomenech,
Keith Roberts, P Rodis, PEter Schopfer, Keith Waldron and Ignacio Zarra

THIS EVENT IS SPONSORED BY THE EU'S TRAINING AND MOBILITY OF RESEARCHERS
PROGRAMME. A limited number of bursaries toward the cost of
registration, accommodation and travel expenses are available for
researchers younger than 35 who are citizens of EU member states.
