HOBACGEN Release 5 (July 1999)
The new release of HOBACGEN (the Homologous Bacterial Genes
Database) is now available. Information on the database can be
accessed at:
http://pbil.univ-lyon1.fr/databases/hobacgen.html
HOBACGEN is a database system that contains all the protein
sequences of bacteria organized into families. It allows one to
select sets of homologous genes from bacterial species and to
visualize multiple alignments and phylogenetic trees. Thus
HOBACGEN is particularly useful for comparative genomics, phylo-
geny and molecular evolution studies on bacteria.
The database contains all sequences of bacteria (eubacteria and
archeae) and yeast taken from SWISS-PROT + TrEMBL, with some
annotation modifications. It contains also all the corresponding
nucleotide sequences from EMBL. Homologous proteins are clas-
sified into families and multiple alignments and phylogenetic
trees are computed for each family.
This new version of HOBACGEN has been built using sequences from
SWISS-PROT 37 (+ updates) and TrEMBL 10. Among the 102,369
proteins used to build this release, 82,464 are from eubacteria,
13,021 from archaea, and 6,883 from yeast.
