Conference announcement and Call for papers

                    May 24-29, 1999

The First Internet Conference on Phytopathogenic Mollicutes will cover all
research subjects related to the phytoplasmas, the spiroplasmas and the
diseases they cause. Contributions may be submitted from March 1 to May 8,
1999, using the forms available at the conference site (

The aim of the conference is to review the current status of phytopathogenic
mollicute research worldwide and to allow people dealing with applied and
basic research to get in touch. In order to create an updated snapshot of the
research interest worldwide, we encourage the submission of papers based on
preliminary results of new researches or summarizing the current status of
ongoing research projects.

General sessions on epidemiology, control, molecular biology, taxonomy,
identification, host-pathogen interactions, new phytoplasma-plant associations
as well as special sessions on grapevine, fruit trees and
herbaceous/ornamental plants diseases are scheduled. The abstracts of the
research papers will be published by the Journal of Plant Pathology.

Aside to research papers, the conference will host short papers, named
"opinions", which must not necessarily contain experimental data, signalling
rising problems connected with applied or basic research.

The First Internet Conference on Phytopathogenic Mollicutes is organized
within the activity of the Phytoplasma working team of the International
Research Programme on Comparative Mycoplasmology.
