Millennium Conference on Nucleic Acid Therapeutics - see
http://tesla.jci.tju.edu/millennium.html
8-11 January, 2000 Clearwater Beach, Florida
Conference Focus:
A broad international research effort to develop nucleic acid analogs
and vectors as
therapeutics for cancers, chronic diseases, and microorganisms has finally
led to clinical trials
and the first FDA approval of a DNA drug. Great progress has occurred since
the last
Clearwater Beach meeting in 1991. The 2000 meeting will provide a forum
whereby the most
recent developments in preparing gene specific drugs and vectors, and
applying those agents
in preclinical and clinical trials will be shared among scientists,
clinicians, and regulators from
around the world. The conference is supported by the International Union of
Biochemistry
and Molecular Biology, the US National Institutes of Health, and
biotechnology firms.
Conference Design:
Participants will arrive at the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort on a
Saturday, then attend
plenary sessions in the morning and evening on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday,
with departure
on Wednesday morning. Poster sessions will be held in the afternoons,
leaving participants
free to discuss mutual research interests and develop new projects. The
great majority of
participants are expected to stay at the hotel, and eat all their meals
together. The cost of food
is included in the $500 registration fee. This meeting design encourages
the maximum possible
interaction of participants. Participation will be limited to 300 persons.
