Scope of the Workshop (http://isess.crle.uoguelph.ca/2000-scope.html):
Zell am See, Autria
May 30 to June 2, 2000.
During the ISESS 1999 Conference in Dunedin, New Zealand, a number of
"hot" topics in Environmental Information Systems (EIS) and
Decision Support Systems (EDSS) were identified. One of the topics that
seemed to concern many of us was related to the issue of integration.
Integration in EIS and EDSS comes in several flavours, including:
Integration of environmental information: data and information
strategies, integration tools and software, data policies.
Integration of environmental methodologies, software components and
into decision making systems: monitoring, environmental indicators,
planning, remote sensing, simulation, geographical information,
statistical tools, artificial intelligence based methods,
spatial decision support, etc.
Integration of isolated systems into comprehensive scientific,
administrative and public networks: data and metadata standards,
environmental data catalogues, use of hypermedia and Internet, policies
for public environmental information.
Integration issues are of general concern for scientists, planners,
engineers, administration and the IT professionals building
environmental software systems.
