===============================================================================

GCB-2000 (The German Conference on Bioinformatics), an International
Annual Conference covering computational molecular biology and adjoining
fields, will take place in Heidelberg from October 5 to 7, 2000.

The conference is one of the oldest (established 1985) and most
traditional conferences in the rapidly expanding field of Bioinformatics
and Computational Biology. The main focus of the conference is on current
research in the theory and application of methods in bioinformatics that
complement experimental research in the molecular biosciences. It seeks
to expand its focus to various relevant aspects of computational biology
such as theoretical biology, computational biochemistry, user-oriented
representation, data-mining of biological data, etc.

GCB will feature invited talks, selected full talks, selected short talks,
poster sessions and an industrial fair. International participants are
particularly welcome. The conference language is English.

This year the focus will be on the following subjects:
* Structures, Docking and Folding
* Biopolymer and Genome Analysis
* Molecular Evolution and Theoretical Biology
* Computation of Biochemical Pathways
* Acquiring and Managing Biological Data

Keynote speakers so far are:
* Thomas Lengauer
* Christos Ouzounis
* Monica Riley
* Peter Schuster
* Norman Paton

Submitted papers will be reviewed by at least two independent referees.
Authors of selected papers will be invited for 30 min. oral presentations
and their talks will be published as extended abstracts in the proceedings
book. Several other presentations will also be selected for a short oral
presentation (10 mins). Presented papers are eligible for submission in
extended form to the journal Bioinformatics.

See http://www.eml.org/gcb00/submission.html for details on the submission
procedure.

Please inform your colleagues about this meeting. We would like it to be
even more successful than past GCB meetings!

The Organizers.
