HOBACGEN Release 8 (October 2000)
The new release of HOBACGEN (the Homologous Bacterial Genes
Database) is now available. Information on the database can be
accessed at:
http://pbil.univ-lyon1.fr/databases/hobacgen.html
HOBACGEN is a database system that contains all the protein
sequences of prokaryotes organized into families. It allows one
to select sets of homologous genes from prokaryotic species and
to visualize multiple alignments and phylogenetic trees.
The database contains all sequences of bacteria, archaea and
yeast taken from SWISS-PROT, TrEMBL and TrEMBLNEW, with some
annotation modifications. It contains also all the corresponding
nucleotide sequences from EMBL. Homologous proteins are clas-
sified into families and multiple alignments and phylogenetic
trees are computed for each family.
This new version of HOBACGEN has been built using sequences from
SWISS-PROT 39 (+ updates until September 29) and TrEMBL 14.
Among the 154,132 proteins used to build this release, 131,917
are from bacteria, 15,389 from archaea, and 6,826 from yeast.
