Dear BTK-MCAers,
After confessing my problems with efficiencies
(of microbes; I should perhaps also confess the ones I have with
eukaryotes....), I would like to mention other recent results:
1.Making a quantitative model of the cell cycle model
of
Kim Nasmyth, which involves cyclins and "clbs".
One of these represses the transcription of the other.
By way of revenge the other degrades a protease of the former.
With certain parameter choices, the computer produces a cell cycle!
I forget to tell you that both cyclin and clb stimluate
their own transcription.
Have you seen anything similar recently?
2.Modelling pattern formation in early
development. From seven identical cells on a row, a stripe pattern develops
automatically, given certain cell-cell interactions.
Small perturbations inverse the stripes (black become white and vv.).
3.Tumor necrosis factor may wel be an example of a catastrophe system.
We have a model predicting two states; with the obvious relevance.
Any postdoc/or sabbatical aspirant interested in this, please let me know.
Any comments welcome:
