Would it not be a good idea to see where we are on this issue at
the BTK meeting after this year's Austrian event, perhaps by organising a
session on the topic (e. g. at 1996 Stellenbosch??)? I am essentially an
electrogenic proton pump person but I agree there are some problems
quantitating events during steady states etc. It is still unclear as to
whether pulse events reflect steady state events and how. For cytochrome c
oxidase John Wrigglesworth Chris Cooper and I are still trying to create a
model for the proteoliposome that will account for everything numerically.
