Hullo
Does anybody know of sex differences in the efficiency of protective
mechanisms against free radicals eg Superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione
peroxidase (GPX) etc. I know that there are sex differences in the response to
zinc deficiency (part of the core of SOD) but that's about all I have come
across so far. What about selenium, glutathione etc.?
The reason that I ask is that in my research into
adult malnutrition I seem to have come up with marked sex differences
in the responses to starvation and I am trying to find a metabolic explanation
for this. Any ideas or references would be most welcome
Thank you
Steve
