The Feb 15 Nature (vol 379: 597) includes a review, "From DNA Sequence to
Biological Function" by Stephen Oliver. The author proposes that the
complete yeast DNA sequence (due momentarily) will trigger new strategies
for the discovery and analysis of complex gene function. He states that
some approaches to determining functional hierarchies "rests on the
principles of metabolic control (or "flux") analysis." And, in particular,
on "top-down" approaches. Could someone flesh this assertion out for me, a
non-expert in MCA? I assume that he's simply drawing a conceptual parallel
of MCA to proposed functional gene analysis, but is there an real, or
experimental relationship as well?
