Malonic acid is a well known competitive inhibitor of some
enzymes in TCA cycle. The dicarboxylic acid is also known to exist
in relative high concentrations in plants. I am very interested
in knowing why eating vegetables does not cause any unpleasant
effects. Is there any evidence showing that malonate can not get
into cells ? Or our intestine simply refuses absorption of this
compound ? Thanks a lot for your response.
