I agree that the process should be democratic. Also, it's not something
I'm just dying to do. So I think that considerably more than 50% "for"
is in order. 75% ????
I will keep track of both the #s and the list of names (I presume that this
is preferable to assure accuarcy) for & against. After a few weeks or so
(I'm on vacation the week after next), I'll publish the #s with names, so
you can all look to see if I have you listed in the right category (or at
all).
So far I have (if I recall correctly):
3 for
(Pedro Mendes, Athel Cornish-Bowden, and John Woods)
2 opposed
(Herber Sauro, and CJ fields.)
I'll let someone worry about what is sufficient critical mass.

On a separate note, having been a victim of/party to a recent internet
hoax (e.g., the GoodTimes virus), I've been made aware of a web page that
discusses them, says how to identify them, distinguish them from real
warnings, & what to do: http://ciac.llnl.gov/ciac/CIACHoaxes.html
(This by the US Dept. of Energy, at Lawrence-Livermore National Lab.
The parent site has other useful info.)
