Well my intention was to publish not only the totals, but the list of
names for and against, so you can just state your preference to the
entire group, perhaps with some reasoning. Now if people want to be
able to vote in secret, send me e-mail directly: schlosser at ciit.org,
say you want it unlisted, and I'll keep your name in a separate file
in case there's a "challenge."

Trust me, I'm a scientist ;-)
My tendency would be to pass anything that has anything to do with
metabolism and delete the advertisements, unless it's for something
directly related to metabolism (software, etc.). If you want ads,
there are plenty of groups where you can get those. I'd tend to dump
stuff on CD-Rs since there are web sites like Cyberian Outpost where
you can probably get as good a price as anywere. In the case of posts
like the one on Gene Discovery, I might respond to the author and ask
him/her to explain what the relavence is to this group, and post it
if they make any effort whatsoever in that direction (along with the
explanation). I'd actually bet that the Gene D. post was scientific
spam--sent to every group in bionet without discrimination--and the
request would check that sort of thing.
