chemostat: Allison et al. J. Gen Microbiol. 139, 2309-2317 (1993). This
was with Prosser's group in Aberdeen, but I'm not aware that it's been
followed up experimentally.
T Roberts in Reading (UK) used to lead a group that was collecting data for
modelling growth of microorganisms under different environmental conditions.
This was taken over commercially by a food research institute whose name
escapes me at the moment at Chipping Campden.
I had a student looking at mixed batch cultures of Lactobacillus plantarum
and Aeromonas hyrophila with a view to collecting data for modelling.
There's definitely an interaction, but we had trouble sorting out what was
going on through lack of detailed knowledge of A. hydrophila metabolism.
If you are interested in control analysis of ecological models in general,
Christoph Giersch has published in this area.
