Dave-

You may get thousands of thank-yous. You may get only a few. Whichever
way it goes, you can be sure it is a vast underestimate of the gratitude
felt by biologists worldwide. Many will suppose that hundreds of
thank-yous amounts to spam. I considered that possibility for just a
moment, then put myself in your shoes and asked what I would want as I
passed the reins. The answer was obvious; I'd want people to say what
bionet has meant and means to them.

I am still a newcomer to bionet, but just today I had lunch in Bethesda,
MD USA with Athel Cornish-Bowden, a European colleague I would never
have encountered had it not been for bionet.metabolic-reg. This is just
one of many personal professional relationships initiated and nurtured
under the auspices of bionet.

So if your mailbox fills up with thank you messages, put them all on a
zip drive and re-read them whenever the world gets you down. It's often
painfully difficult to get a pat on the back in this business, so I want
it to be perfectly clear...*this* is a pat on the back. Thank you!

Regards,
Bob
