The Department of Nutrition of Case Western Reserve University School of
Medicine (Cleveland, Ohio) is expanding its training programs in
Nutritional Biochemistry/Metabolism and Molecular Nutrition. Our
department is one of the leaders in NIH-sponsored nutrition research.
Fellowships for post-doctoral and predoctoral (tuition + stipend)
trainees are available with the following faculty:
Henri Brunengraber: metabolic regulation, noninvasive techniques for
probing metabolic pathways with stable isotopes, design of artificial
nutrients, preventors of reperfusion injury and accelerators of ethanol
metabolism
Paul E. Ernsberger: metabolic and cardiovascular alterations in obesity,
control of metabolism by the autonomous nervous system, phospholipid
signaling pathways.
Jacob E. Friedman: insulin receptor signaling and hormonal regulation of
hepatic PEPCK gene promoter in diabetes; molecular control of obesity
genes; gestational diabetes
Maria Hatzoglou: molecular sites of control of gene expression as it
relates to amino acid transport, cell growth and differentiation, and
gene therapy of metabolic diseases
Janos Kerner: fatty acid oxidation, effects of carnitine on aging
skeletal muscle.
Laura E. Nagy: ethanol and signal transduction, regulation of glut 4
vesicle traffick and glucose transport in adipose and muscle
Kou-Yi Tserng: metabolism of unsaturated fatty acids
We seek candidates with strong basic science background and drive for
research. Detailed information on the departmental research programs,
doctoral and postdoctoral positions, and application forms to the PhD
program are available at
