It seems clear that Mr. Webb is not too familiar with the nature of
scientific discourse, and the scientific enterprise in general. He
seems to believe that any place where discussion of any validity can
take place is on the pages of peer reviewed journals, preferably in
Nature and Science (the two journals that he mentioned).
Becuase Mr. Webb is a student at this point in his career, apparently
working on a doctorate, I believe it is *critically* important that he
also studies closely the nature of scientific inovation, including the
so-called "Paradigm Shift". There have been many 'established' theries
that fell only after a heroic efforts.
I live in a town where Howard Temin did his work in reverse
transcriptase... Need I say more? The "Central Dogma" of molecular
biology held transcription occurred *only* from DNA to RNA. It took a
long time and many discussions on and (importantly!) *off* the pages of
Science and Nature before the larger community became confinced that
Temin was correct.
If Mr. Webb is 'lurking' out there ('lurking' is a technical term
relating to the use of Usenet, not a pejorative), I recommend to him an
excellent book by Steven Fuller, "The Philosophy of Science and its
Discontents". Fuller teaches Philosophy of Science at the University of
Colorado (last time I looked, anyway).
