Not true: there is NO moderator. There is a discussion leader (John Woods)
but he hasn't contributed to the news group since I started following it,
i.e. for more than 5 years. What happened was that Paul Schlosser, about
three years ago, organized a vote to see if there was a majority in favour
of moderation. There was, though only a very small one (7 to 6 or something
like that), and Paul volunteered to organize it; I said that I didn't want
to organize it myself but that I would be glad to assist Paul and fill in
for him when he was absent. He said OK, but not until after the summer.
However, the summer passed and we never heard again from him. (I don't
think his web site, once quite active, has been touched for about 4 years).
Meanwhile the spam became much less abundant, we all relaxed, forgot about
moderation, and worried more about heresies coming from Bulgaria (all the
stuff coming from Pentcho Valev outweighed all the efforts of the
spammers). However, there is no reason not to open the discussion again. I
agree that now we have more about Asian teens and making $$$$ fast than we
do about metabolic control.

Sorry about this: although I do little teaching now, it so happens that
such teaching as I do do in 2001 occupies most of 16th November, so this
has not been a week for chatting on the news group. To answer in brief, I'm
basically in favour of the suggestion, but would like to see more
discussion.
