50 Mb of genome finished!

Just wanted to report to you all that the C. elegans genome sequencing
project passed the 50 megabase mark for finished sequence data last week!
Another 25+ Mb is underway in various stages of completion.  The last 20
percent of the genome will be the tough part, as it is mainly contained
in YACs and sparse cosmids.  Therefore, the planned completion date for
all 100 or so Mb is still expected in late 1998.

As always, finished and unfinished data is available from our respective
web/ftp sites in St. Louis and Hinxton:
