antibodies in rats

HI,
Our lab is interested in making antibodies to a worm protein in rats.  We
need another species other than rabbits for double labelling purposes.  Has
anyone out there made antibodies successfully in rats against a nematode
protein and stained whole mounts?  How about ascities production, is this
done?  Are there any disadvantages to these and more important does anyone
have any experience (good or bad) with companies who make these antibodies?
