WormBase (www.wormbase.org) is an international consortium of
biologists and computer scientists that provides the research community
with accurate, current, accessible information concerning the genetics,
genomics, and biology of the model organism C. elegans.

An opening has become available for a senior bioinformatician to help
us improve the information content of WormBase and to develop the
system and strategy by which we assemble the database for the community.

Based in the informatics group at the Sanger Institute, your
primary duties will involve curation of genetic data in collaboration
with Prof. Jonathan Hodgkin of Oxford University and with the
Caenorhabditis Genetics Centre (www.biosci.umn.edu/CGC).

Other key duties will involve working closely with other WormBase
members to help develop the procedures which we use to assemble the
WormBase database.

Ideally, you will have a degree (preferably a PhD) in a suitable
biological discipline and will be comfortable with working in a
computer-based environment. A knowledge of UNIX and biological
database systems is desirable and familarity with perl or other
scripting languages would be advantageous. We would also welcome
applications from candidates with a strong background in C. elegans
biology who would be keen to develop their computer skills.
Commitment to science and a team spirit are important.
