Burnham Institute for Medical Research, an independent, non-profit, =20
public-benefit basic research organization, located in La Jolla, =20
California, is seeking a Research Assistant for the newly established =20=
laboratory of Dr. Malene Hansen. Dr. Hansen=92s research focuses on =20
understanding the molecular mechanisms of aging, using Caenorhabditis =20=
elegans as the main model organism. The lab conducts research using =20
a multidisciplinary approach that integrates genetics, molecular =20
biology, biochemistry and microscopy to address our research objectives.
Responsibilities of the successful candidate include setting up and =20
organizing a new research lab, handling laboratory administration, =20
overseeing equipment installation and maintenance, ordering and =20
stocking of lab supplies, maintaining various reagent collections, =20
and inventories, training and supervision of new lab personnel, =20
assisting with experiments as determined by the PI. Other duties may =20
include preparing general lab reagents.
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in science, and a minimum of 3 =20
years of practical laboratory experience in biochemistry, molecular =20
biology or genetics. Experience with C. elegans is preferred. =20
Emphasis on responsibility, organization, independency, problem =20
solving, database management and interpersonal skills,. The lab is =20
seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual, who is capable =20
of multi-tasking and team-working. The successful applicant will =20

have the opportunity to contribute as an author on manuscripts.
