alpha-toxin permeabilization

Can anyone out in cyberspace comment on the use of Staphyloccous aureus
alpha-toxin to permeabilize confluent monolayers of adherent cells. The
literature I have seen is mostly with subconfluent cells. Is this
essential? Does anyone know a paper where there is a systematic dissection
of the parameters modulating alpha-toxin permeability (e.g., time,
concentration, cell number, etc.) TIA.
