how to temporarility block cell cycle in vivo...

I would like to ask exactly the above....

I need to stop the cell cycle (in G1, most likely) in mice temporarily
without killing them...in the thymus.

I've thought of irradiating thymic cells below a level where they would
die by apoptosis, but I'm not sure if this would induce a block and
whether they would bounce back and proliferate.

any suggestions?
