Nucleic Acid Isolation from the red blood cells of painted turltles

I am looking for any established protocol describing the drawing
of blood and isolation of DNA from _Chrysemys_ _picta_ (painted turtle).
I am also looking for safe blood volumes that can be drawn from the
animals so sas not to endanger them.
