beta-glycerophosphate

In order to obtain lysates for kinase assays a lot of people use beta 
glycerophophate in homogenization buffers. Who knows, why this compound 
is used? Does it inhibit phosphatases by keeping them busy, or what is 
the rational of using this chemical?
