This is a standard technique: Separate by one- or twodimensional 
electrophoresis, western-blot onto PVDF membranes, stain with Coomassie 
blue or Ponceau red, cut out the interesting bands and put them (still on 
the PVDF) into a gas phase sequencer. 

You have to use PVDF membranes though, nitrocellulose does not work.
