Just a bit of advice:  The fines of activated charcoal are really a pain 
to remove by filtration (serum + carbon clogs filters).  You would be 
well advised to consider pre-filters and also, remove fines from the 
charcoal before you begin.  You might want to pellet the carbon in a 
centrifuge and wash the pellet a few times.  In this way, you can remove 
the bulk of the carbon from the serum by centrifugation, followed by 
filtration to sterilize.
