I am in search of a dye to stain living cells which would absorb in
the in the visible range. I looking at hepatocytes through an
inverted microscope (attached to an atomic force microscope, just to
give you the whole picture) and they don't show very well at all. The
cells are on a glass cover slip stuck to a steel AFM specimen stub.
So, my idea is to use a dye in conjunction with a white background for
the coverslip. Even if the dye doesn't harm cells only for a few
hours, and gives a slight increase in contrast, it would work fine.
Would coomassie blue work? Do you have any toher ideas for increasing
contrast? . Many thanks - Kiran
