How to get heme into animal cells?

I'm working with a yeast protein whose activity is regulated by heme. When
I transfect appropriate plasmid encoding this yeast protein into Hela
cells, there is no activity. There may be several reasons for this but
maybe there is not enough endogeneous heme in this Hela cell line or
something like that. I wonder how I could increase heme level inside the
cells. In yeast, one can supply heme by using a precursor called ALA which
will be taken by the yeast cells and consequently converted to heme inside
the cells. I also wonder if there exists a receptor for heme?
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.
